Greetings from Australia.
Away from law, justice & the courthouse, the wrangling courts & stubborn law, I live on our little farm of 12.5 acres called ‘Fat Lawyer Farm’ where I work on renovating, on finishing, our farmhouse & generally managing the place among other things . . .
Our little patch of land is situated just minutes from the town (village) of Angaston in the heart of Barossa Valley wine country in South Australia. Barossa Valley is Australia’s premium grape growing & wine-producing region & one of the nation’s top tourist destinations.
Our house remains a work in progress. Hmph! I’m not a gardener & do only what needs to be done. Ugh! When I’m not doing outdoorsy things I love being in the kitchen. I enjoy arty, making & creating. I enjoy vintage dolls, old teddy bears etc. I love to knit, to sew. I love making cloth & rag dolls especially in the more primitive naive style. Such pursuits seem just a dream these days.
I enjoy all things worn & rustic. I repair, fix & make-over furniture & home decor if it suits me. I love antiquing, brocanting, the vintage & rustic. I love history. Earlier times. The old. Old books. Vintage books. Love reading. I guess you could say I’m an undisciplined eclectic & I love it.
Overseas? Yes, but not the USA this time. My eye has been on France for many years certainly since returning to Australia from the USA. NGE & I have been trying to get to France for some years now. In December just gone (2019) we took the plunge & embarked on the process of purchasing a little old village house in rural France. See ‘France’ for more.
I am a lawyer by education & profession, a barrister & solicitor. That’s une avocate in France & an attorney in USA. I’m admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of South Australia & High Court of Australia.
You could say I’m a justice junkie as my areas of interest are criminal law, human rights, ethics & morality, natural law, social justice, civil & political rights, international & comparative law, legal history & animal law & ethics.
NGE is also a barrister.
Over the years, I came to see that there is no ideal greater than liberty. Indeed, liberty is the one abiding principle at the heart of all we do, all we are. Without liberty life would be nothing.
I also realized that the moral component of representing the ‘less popular’ means one is always trying to promote good in the world, a good within a ‘cura personalis‘ framework.
In the mid 80s I moved abroad to the USA where I married & lived for near 17 years in 4 states: Alabama, Tennessee, Florida & Texas, all the time working in the law primarily criminal defence, social justice & anti death penalty advocacy.
Posting? It’s 2020 & I have changed, refreshed & updated my Blog which means you find me ‘Lawya Lady’ posting at http://www.lawyalady.com.
I post about whatever is on my mind. Posts come & go with no set strategy, topics or pre-set regularity like daily or weekly. With my current workload & various other plans & commitments, I couldn’t possibly be tied to such a strict regime. I may even post multiple times in a day or not at all for a while. I may re-post an older post with updates if relevant. Am I eclectically undisciplined or an undisciplined eclectic? 🙂 I don’t take it all too seriously . . . it’s all for fun, interest & sharing.
And I’m not overly computer literate. I figure it out as I go. Yes, I make errors. Yes, sometimes my posts turn out wonky. What the heck. I fix them. A woman of my age & dotage was working in the Public Service way back when telex machines operated in the 70s! Yikes.
Of course, now, with the convenience & efficiency of Instagram, blogging is even more intermittent. Nevertheless, I believe a blog remains the best platform for longer posts &/or those with multiple images. It’s finding the time . . .
You can find my Insta links on this Blog. My Facebook pages are simply intermittent re-posts from Instagram & the Blog & not as up to date.
I’m not a photographer so don’t expect drop-dead gorgeous images like you see on many sites & platforms. I plod along with my photographs. Of course this blog is not about photography nor am I advertising my photography skills. It’s for fun, interest & sharing with the images just one part of the mix. Enjoy!
