Indeed, caps or hats are not worn by lawyers in Australia as we prefer the ‘powdered’ wig . . . a legal accouterment known to fall off if one is not careful.

This old cap came from La Belle Jardinière a chain of clothing stores developed in France in the 19th century.

 

 

 

The handwritten notation “chaproc de papa” seems to refer to “Dad’s hat”

A beautiful and unusual antique item,perfect for a gift .

La Belle Jardinière is the name of a chain of clothing stores that developed in France in the 19th century.

The hat,in good antique condition, is made of wool ,and the head contour with black velvet.

It is sold in its original cardboard box,with signs of age, with a lovely handwritten annotation,of the daughter of the antique owner:”chaproc de papa”,which is an abbreviation in French of “hat of prosecutor of Dad”

In good general antique condition,some signs of age of the box with little spots and a tear(pic9), ,still adorable.
